Summer Sweetness
July 1970
Sweet juice
dribbles down my chin
you, my summer
teaching me to eat, spit
eat, spit
tiny treasures to offer
the summer fairies
as they rest their
gossamer wings in the heat of the day.
My hero,
my summer,
my god at two,
teaching me the delights of the day.

How precious!
This poem said so much..."my hero/my summer/my god at two/teaching me the delights of the day". Beautiful...

I love both the poem and the photo!
Love the poem and the photo - just wonderful!
This is so sweet, Kim! What a great memory. I have a photo of me about that age on the knee of my great-grandfather as he held a big juicy peach and I toothlessly mowed through it. I don't actaully remember it, though. Also, I am a watermelon-seed-swallower. I admit it. Too lazy to spit! My husband and I disagree on this, as on swallowing gum. Ha! But your poem is so lovely in its simplicity, and the photo is great!
